MCAEL is a community coalition for literacy - a group of individuals and organizations from the community that have come together to strengthen and promote adult English literacy services in Montgomery County. Together, the Coalition members work toward a common goal of strengthening the broader community, by helping adults gain the English literacy skills needed to reach their potential as parents, workers and community members, so that all community members can help build a 21st Century Montgomery.
MCAEL's work focuses on over 130,000 Montgomery County residents identified as Limited English Proficient, as well as the broader community in which they live and work. MCAEL's activities directly support a network of more than 70 adult ESOL and literacy service provider programs, and the more than 1,500 instructors and program staff they employ. More than 5,000 adult learners are served annually through programs funded directly by MCAEL, and more than 20,000 are served by our broader provider network.
